Beglik Tash: The Sacred Thracian Rock Sanctuary

Concealed in thick oak forests overlooking Cape Beglik Tash near Primorsko, this monumental rock sanctuary was used continuously from the 14th century BCE through the 4th century CE. It served as the central religious sanctuary for the Thracian tribe of the Scyrmiadae.

Highlights of the self-guided trail include:

• The Marriage Bed: A massive carved stone couch positioned to align with the summer solstice sunrise, symbolizing the sacred union between the Sun God and Mother Earth.
• The Stone Sundial: 16 monumental granite slabs arranged along a circle, casting shadows to track hours, seasonal solstices, and lunar cycles.
• The Rock Labyrinth: Narrow passages cut between 9-meter-tall granite boulders, used for initiate trials where pilgrims proved their moral purity.

Ropotamo River Nature Reserve & Boat Safaris

Flowing through deep gorges into the Gulf of Burgas, the Ropotamo River forms a tranquil sanctuary for over 250 bird species and dozens of mammal varieties.

Excursion boats operate daily from the river landing adjacent to the Route II-99 highway bridge (50 km south of Burgas). The 45-minute cruise glides silently through dense swamp forests (longoz) covered in wild lianas, past the Lion's Head granite rock formation, reaching the pristine protected sand spit where the river empties into the Black Sea.
